The dog trucks cannot enter the
campground once teams start arriving. They park
near the entrance, and crews have to drag gear in
and out on sleds. At times, a dozen or more dog
trucks will be lined up along the road. |
|
|
Looking back from the entrance,
you can see Dawson across the river. If you look
very closely, you will see a small speck in the
sky over the trees on the right of the picture.
That's a fellow who flew under a kite, with a giant
fan behind him. |

Our campsite, with a wide driveway,
shovelled by hand, by Eliane, George and Elaine.
The blue tent is the dog hotel, the orange Arctic
Oven is our supplies tent. |

Our doggie hotel, with snow banked
on either side. Straw covers snow benches, with
a trench down the middle to make it easier for the
crew to move among the dogs. |

Dogs settled in the straw (except
Mischief). Note the clipboards hanging from the
ropes supporting the tarps. Those are the individual
medical charts for each dog. |

At feeding time, the dogs are ready

They look up for the camera, but
don't get out of the straw! |

Visiting with Flint. He's wearing
a special orange coat to protect his harness rub.
The white flecks on this image and others is indeed
snow falling, just in case you were wondering. |

Visiting Mischief and Sprocket.
She's wearing a coat because she's smaller and thinner
than the boys in the team. |

| Seconds after these two pictures were taken,
Frank left Dawson, heading towards 40-Mile and Eagle,
Alaska. |
