2005 Puppies |
|
 |
 |
 |
| Glacier had 6 beautiful puppies (I know, I say that
about all our puppies, but it's true!). They are almost
all white. |
There is nothing sweeter than a pile of sleeping puppies! |
Glacier's pups took to solid food on the very first
try. And boy, are they ever serious about their food! |

 |
 |
| How many puppies can get their heads into one cake pan
full of soaked kibble? |
When puppies start to walk around, their first big hurdle
is the ledge at the door of the whelping house. And for
the tiny pups, it seems like a very high hurdle indeed. |
At this age, shoes are just one more huge thing to explore.
In another month, that shoe will be a playground, especially
the laces... |

| Marley's puppies beginning to play |
When Marley's puppies eat, they run around the bowl
in sinc, at rapid speeds, and resemble a pinwheel blowing
in the wind! It's absolutely hilarious, and we have no
idea how they actually manage to eat anything. |
Marlye's puppies love to run on the beach along the
Takhini River at our home.

Solitaire with her pups, and Tango's pups,
when all the pups are just a few days old. The smallest
dark ones in the picture are out of Tango.
Altogether there were 7 boys and 2 girls. We set up a
whelping area in the garage, as it was very hot outside
and the garage stayed relatively cool.
On the left, a visitor has a closer look.

| Tango & Solitaire |
|
|
This
year, it was Tango and Solitaire, who had Puppies. Solitaire
had seven beautiful puppies, after a long, rather slow
and difficult whelping. It was immediately evident that
she would be a very caring and attentive mother.
Tango only had two, but she was almost oblivious to
their arrival. After several days of trying to get her
to settle down and care for the pups, we decided to
take the pups away. We put them in with Solitaire, hoping
she would accept them, and she did. So she cared for
a total of 9 puppies! Solitaire herself was fostered
by Tinker, when her own mother, Lucie, died during whelping
(the only female we have ever lost during whelping).
The father of Solitaire's pups is Rudi, one of our
best young males, and Solitaire comes out of the Trotter
& Princess line, an excellent breeding, so these
could be very good dogs! |

| The puppies out of Solitaire and Tango are learning
about kibble. Some of them get right "into"
their food. |

Frank and puppies at play. We're not sure who has more
fun! |

 |
Early socialization is really important for our puppies.
|
|
Socializing with other puppies is also very important! |

|
| In August, we had a second big litter when
Anna had seven puppies. The puppies all thrived and were
incredibly cute! |
 |
 |
|
Like Solitaire, Anna is a
great mother. |

 |
Louise, Buck's sister, has 8 beautiful puppies.
The father is Joe, an incredible dog that finished the
Quest, the Iditarod and the Hope races all in one year
(something no other dog has done). They are very cute
and cuddly now, but one day some of them may be Quest
champions. |
