Retired Dogs at Muktuk

Our retired dogs join our recreational teams to take out visitors. Some of them help train puppies for future Quest teams, while the rest enjoy the extra attention they get running in the touring teams. They all seem to know that they are "special" – a cut above the average touring dog....

Streaker
Streaker, one of our most handsome dogs, retired at 14. Until then, he still enjoyed going out in the recreational teams. He was a very reliable Quest dog, and one of the cheerleaders of the team.

Bozo
Bozo has pulled Frank over more miles than any other dog! He has logged around 25,000 miles. One of the Quest vets once called him "The Bodybuilder" because he is so well-muscled. He was never once dropped from a race, sort of a Cal Ripkin of the mushing world.

Alder
Alder is a handsome, proud fellow. He is also a bit goofy. He was an great Quest team member, though not a leader. A strong, reliable dog, he worked until he was over 12 years old. Now he hangs out with the older dogs, looking for treats and enjoying retirement. He wears a special harness, as he has arthritis in his neck, but he still manages to roll about in the snow!

Red
Red now resides in Fairbanks, with Val Mackerl, but he was a fine leader and great team dog.

Fox
Fox is a real cuddly dog, and one of our best "singers" (howlers). She is one of Dingo's daughters and has the same ultra soft coat.

Murphy
Murphy, a retired Quest dog, is looking serious for a change! In his younger days, Murphy was famous as a jumper, and was fondly known as "hoop-boy".

The older dogs all get to come inside. They line up in the porch, waiting for the chance to come in, then waiting to go out. They all get along well, and provide us with endless entertainment as they perform together.
