Frank Turner has spent more than 25 years in the team building business, assembling teams of husky dogs for Arctic expeditions and races including the 1000-mile Yukon Quest race between Whitehorse (Yukon) and Fairbanks (Alaska); an endurance challenge that has earned the reputation as "the toughest race on earth".
He has competed in the Yukon Quest challenge more times than any other musher - 24 times in the race's first 25 years! He has also trekked in two exhilarating expeditions in the Siberian and Canadian Arctic. He has many stories to share about the strength of teams that have survived the most difficult conditions.
Frank offers two options for his program. The Keynote Speaking and/or Teambuilding Activities that will take place at your site or
Dogsledding Incentive Packages or Team-Building Workshops at Muktuk.
Frank’s top priority is the proper care of his team of husky dogs. He has received
acclaim throughout his career for this
"team first" approach. Other critical
qualities that Frank promotes are:
1) Unfailing trust in yourself and each other
2) Developing each team member’s
passion for the team
3) Ensuring the right players are in
the right place at the right time
4) Maximizing individual’s strengths
and minimizing individual’s limitations
5) Learning through fun
ideal for all level
of management
"In the Yukon Quest race we live by the team: it's all about the team.
There's no 'I' or 'me', it's only 'we' and 'us'."

Purpose:
The team needs a clear purpose, focus, or mission. It must be a purpose or mission that aligns with personal beliefs or drive….
Challenge:
A rewarding team experience results from being challenged. Challenge is a great team motivator.
Camaraderie:
The most successful teams over the long haul tend to
address both the technical needs and human needs (or the need of
the sled dog). The key is loyalty. Members of these teams genuinely
respect each other and work hard to develop and maintain their relationships.
Responsibility Ownership:
Teams that have both the responsibility for an Endeavour and the authority to see it through will be motivated to persevere and reach their goal and maintain their motivation longer.
Growth:
When people feel they are moving forward, learning new
concepts, adding to their skill base, and stretching their minds, motivation
tends to remain high. Team members need opportunities that
help add knowledge and skills.
Leadership:
The best leaders create conditions that help the team to motivate themselves.
Great leaders help others see the best in themselves, providing the stimulus for self-actualizing behaviors. It is important to understand the importance of team purpose, challenge, camaraderie, responsibility, and growth, and focus on creating the conditions for these to exist.
"All individuals and teams look good in ideal conditions.
Not all individuals and teams look good in difficult conditions. We train for the latter."
Frank Turner
