Notes about Muktuk Pricing

Many factors affect pricing for our dog-sledding adventures. Below are the four most important factors. If you have any questions about these issues, or any other aspect of Muktuk, please do not hesitate to ask us.

1] Dogs First! Best Dog Care
Our first priority is excellent and humane dog care, so we try to give our dogs the best possible care from birth throughout their lives. For example, we use a top quality food all year round, not just seasonally.

We also do our best to provide quality medical care for all our dogs, including our older dogs. They work hard for us in their younger years, so we give them a special retirement program.

Finally, we never "cull" our kennel, and very seldom sell or place dogs (except when we help with rescues). Our senior dogs get special care, and special food.... treated like royalty.

To put our dog care beliefs into practice involves increased costs, for vet care, food and medications. But we believe the guests who want to come to Muktuk are people who support this philosophy.

2] Customized Learning Adventure
At Muktuk, we specialize in customized learning adventures, programs that allow our guests to progress at their own pace, and achieve whatever level they aspire to.

To offer this type of program, we keep the size of groups small (4 people per guide). A smaller group lets our guest have a bigger and better experience in the extraordinary beauty of the Yukon wilderness.

We also keep our programs flexible, to allow for modification at any time, to accommodate the interests and abilities of each guest. The cost is a bit higher, but the return is beyond measure.

3] Safety & Guiding Excellence
Safety and guiding excellence are also of critical importance for Muktuk. All our staff have First Aid certification, with our main guides certified in Wilderness First Aid, or higher. Our staff start work in September, well before clients arrive, so that they can undergo training and work with the dogs. All our equipment and trips are all selected and planned with safety in mind. Everything from the SAT phone to the snow hook is carefully considered

4] Inclusive Pricing
Prices for tour packages include meals, accommodations, equipment, camping gear, ground transportation and outer clothing (as needed). We don't want guests to have extra or unexpected costs.

The only other costs you would have are travel to the Yukon, personal insurance, and personal items (including alcoholic beverages, if you want them). No charge for great skies, fantastic aurora borealis, or wildlife sightings.
