5th Official Checkpoint: (625 miles into race)

The first seven teams arrived in Eagle between 9:00 and 12:16, and left between 14:00 and 17:35, with just 3½ hours separating them. Four more teams, including Frank, arrived between 19:46 and 19:58. As expected, those four teams departed from Eagle between 2:10 and 5:10. John Schandelmeier and Blake Freking left at 2:10 and 2:11, respectively. Ed Hopkins left at 2:20. Frank left later, at 3:14; and Peter Ledwidge left at 5:10. While Frank left an hour after the first three, his team got a longer rest of 3 ½ hours. Also, the other three teams are each down to 9 dogs, while Frank still has 11 dogs. That difference is significant given that the teams will be doing two longer runs over the next two days – a 7 to 8-hour run to Trout Creek, followed by and 8 to 9-hour run to Slaven's. Much of the trail is on the river and can be windblown with glare ice. The last two teams, Dan Kaduce and Bruno Baureis, arrived in Eagle at 2:16 and 4:38.

We now have Dawson photos up!
