ROOKIE RANCH ADVENTURES

Drücken German Flag

Our Rookie Ranch is modelled on the well-known western concept of a "Dude Ranch" for novice horse riders. Even if you have never set foot on

a dog-sled before you will be driving your own team before you leave Muktuk.

Description of the tour:

Our guests experience all aspects of the amazing winter sport of dog-sledding.

* learn how to care for sled-dogs

* harness and "bootie" dogs

* handle a dog-sled & motivate a dog-sled team

Rookies begin by going out in a sled with a guide but can soon drive a dog team on their own. By the 3rd or 4th day many are ready to try an overnight camping trip (camping is optional).

Some dogs are Yukon Quest veterans, others are race hopefuls in their 1st or 2nd year of training. At the end of the day Rookies can help with evening feeding and share trail stories over a fine dinner.

Out on the trail we have Snowtrekker tents complete with a small stove or you can rough it and try "cold camping" on your sled just like Yukon Quest mushers!

Included in the tour:

* Introduction to sled-dogs and mushing
* Well-trained, certified guide and a team of 4 to 6 friendly huskies
* All winter gear (jacket, snow pants, warm boots, mits, and if you want, you can buy your own thermal underwear from us at a special Muktuk rate)
* Accommodation and fine home-cooked meals

* Camping equipment

* Ground transportation

* At the end of the day relax in our cedar sauna

Other attractions near us:

* Spend an evening at the Takhini Hot Springs

* Stay at the Westmark Hotel in Whitehorse if you have time to explore other nearby attractions while you are in the Yukon

* Try other activities such as ice fishing or snow shoeing

Note: Adult prices quoted, without GST. Reduced rates available for children. Prices are subject to change.

* Solo trip available with surcharge.

If English isn't your first language we often have staff working with us from other countries who may be able to lead a tour in your preferred language.
